Program 21 - December, 1971 - First OTR Convention

This program was recorded at the first Old-Time Radio Collectors' Convention in New Haven, Connecticut. The convention's organizers, Sal Traipani and Jay Hickerson, are featured, along with many of the collectors and their favorite shows, including X Minus 1, Escape, Suspense, Kate Smith Hour, and The Witch's Tale.

Jay Hickerson

Jay Hickerson, a pioneer in the hobby of collecting and preserving vintage radio programs from the Golden Age, Jay Hickerson, old time radio program collector, died last month at the age of 87.

He was the founder of Friends of Old Time Radio which, for 36 years brought together annually fans, collectors, actors and directors of some of the greatest shows of the era.

Jay was a good friend of WTIC's Golden Age who provided us with rare material as well as guests when his conventions were first held in New Haven.

Ed Corcoran, my co-host and pioneer collector himself, were fortunate enough to have Jay as our guest in October, 1976 (Program 79)  in which he tells the whole story of his interest in preserving these programs of a bygone era.

Thank you, Jay.
